Reviving Historic Character in a Conservation Area

This project involved the restoration of two historic buildings that had fallen into disrepair due to years of neglect. The goal was to preserve their original character and transform them into high-quality residential properties.

Challenges and Solutions

  • Subdivision and Deterioration: The buildings had been previously subdivided into studio rooms, leading to a decline in their condition.
  • Conservation Area Requirements: As the properties are located in a conservation area, strict guidelines had to be followed to preserve their historic character.
  • Planning and Conservation: Necessary planning permissions and conservation area consent were obtained to ensure compliance with regulations.

Approach

  • Reinstatement of Original Features: Existing walls were carefully removed to restore the original room proportions and reinstate the building's historic character.
  • Preservation of Stonework and Windows: The stonework and windows were meticulously restored to their original condition, maintaining the buildings' aesthetic appeal.
  • Luxury Apartment Development: The project resulted in the creation of eight luxurious apartments, each designed to offer modern amenities while respecting the historic context.

Outcome

The restoration project successfully transformed two dilapidated buildings into high-quality residential properties. The meticulous attention to detail and commitment to preserving the buildings' historic character resulted in a product that was highly sought after by buyers. This project demonstrates the value of investing in the restoration of historic properties, not only for preserving cultural heritage but also for creating valuable real estate assets.
